OA only works with high quality leather with natural finish. Any color or grain changes are normal for leather and turn it into a unique piece.

All leathers come from animals bred for meat production in Spain and Germany. Each piece of leather is unique. OA only works with tanneries that meet the highest environmental and technical standards. Leathers are chosen very carefully. All leather is AZO and PCP colorant free and chromium IV free. During the tanning process, OA products leather is dyed with aniline in a water bath. The used dye penetrates in every layer of the leather and is transparent. That means that natural pores of leather, as well as scars and color variations that make each skin unique remain visible, so this method can only be used in high quality leather.

All our materials have a story to tell. Learn more about the most used:

Cow leather made of 100% vegetable tanning process, using plant extracts coming from vegetables such as Quebracho and Mimosa. Artisanal greased process is what tells the difference between this leatherandthe one produced through industrial production. This process consists of providing leathers with natural grease layers, oils and 100% natural waxes. We manipulate one by one in our atelier. That provides our products with unique flexibility and texture, as well as an unmistakable warm smell.

Our supplier means the perpetuation of the leather tanning activity that they had been carrying out for four generations and that stands in full force the ancestral tradition of tanning and manipulating the leather that exist in the town of Villarramiel (Palencia) since medieval times. All the leather we take from this supplier enjoy Oeko-Tex certification and come from Germany.

We select this leather one by one in our supplier’s warehouses. They kindly welcome us and they understand us. We feel like home there.

In addition to the skilled leather from Palencia, we work with rhubarb leather from Germany that has a superb quality, look, smell and touch and it is an ecological alternative to conventional/industrial tanning with chromium which is so harmful for the environment.

It is a leather with vegetable extracts from plants like Tara or Valonia that provide a flexible texture and an incomparable smooth aroma. It doesn’t contain any chromium or heavy metals.

Our suppliers are members of the International Association of Natural Textile Industry e.V. (IVN). The guideline IVN “IVN-Naturleder” is one of the more strict rules for leather production in the entire world.

In addition, rhubarb leatheris produced according to the ISO 9001: 2015 and ISO 500001: 2011 requirements. It also enjoys Ekarf and BioKreis certification.

We are working and testing a leather which means the result of more than 10 years of research and whose aim is to minimize the environmental impact at every step of production.

With this new process, our supplier has reduced CO2 emissions taking part in several reforestation projects by which a balance between CO2 emissions and activities undertaken to reduce them will be achieve and it will be set equal to ZERO. Zero impact leather doesn’t contain chromium or heavy metal and it meets the ISO 15987 specification.

It is a material made from recycled leatherwhich has the look, touch and smell of natural leathers because it is treated with the same processes of tanneries, produced with the same equipment and using the same methods that original cow leathers.

Recycled leather comes from the exploitation of wastes from tanneries, which are given a new value by recycling them. It is made of leatherfiber, recycled and sustainable materials that helps to removecarbonfootprint, and so it contributes to the sustainability of the planet.

As a result, recycled leatherproducts get a softness, smoothness and aroma equal to the most selected leathers.

Our recycled leatheralso has the Oeko Tex ® Leader Standard certification.

The recycled Ecosilver line with which OA works is the ecological and sustainable jewelry alternative for sterling silver. 100% made by silver wastes, this recycled Ecosilver can be treated and manipulated in the same way as sterling silver and get the same results. The only difference is that it is more respectful with the environment.

It is made of wastes from jewelry, medical, electronic and gift products industries.

TENCEL® is a 100% natural fiber, of vegetable origin as well as cotton, which is obtained from wood pulp though a manufacturing process completely ecological. For the moment, it is the most environmentally friendly cellulosic fiber available. It is exclusively made of eucalyptus trees wood pulp certified by the Forest Stewardship Council and the fiber has the seal of quality from the Pan European Forest Council (PEFC). The pioneering technology of REFIBRA TM implies, for instance, recycling a substantial part of cotton wastes from production of clothing, in addition to wood pulp, where the raw material becomes Lyocell TENCEL TM fibers.

Recycled polyester is made from recycled material (PET textile and polyester). Choosing recycled polyester textiles we get the same technical performance than other polyester fibers but we minimize the environmental footprint. It is a gorgeous heavy weight sateen fabric completely made of recycled polyester (RPet). That’s it… fiber were bottles once! It is soft, flexible and has a good hang. CERTIFICATE: Green brand, iso14001, iso9001, oeko-tex, oshas18001.

We use different 100% organic cotton canvas that enjoys GOTS and/or OEKO-Tex certification, between others, for several products. It’s the same for our cotton and linens, which enjoy GOTS certificate or OCC guarantee.

GOTS: Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the leading seal for sustainable fabric production. This standard includes treatment, manufacturing, labeled and packaging, as well as the trade and distribution of fabric made of natural fibers ecologically produced at least in a 70%.

GOT standards were developed through collaboration by leading standard setters with the aim of defining requirements that are world-wide recognized.

Paper and cardboard are recycled or have any of the following certificates:

All the factories we work with has received ISO 9001 / ISO 14001 certifications. They commit every day to minimize the environmental impact of their production activities and pay special attention to control and reduce their emissions and energy consumptions.

All our papers are recycled or enjoy FSC®certification. This certification guarantee that all products with FSC seal come from woods managed in a responsible way not only environmentally, but also economically and socially. Other important certifications: CE 94/62 Directive (Absence of Heavy Metals), Elemental Chlorine-Free Guaranteed, PH Neutral, ISO 9706 (Long Life), Well-managed Forest…

We use other materials such as cords, tapes, threads, beeswax, watercolor, water-based paints, adhesives and eco glue, YKK zippers, free-nickel trimmings, etc. As well as with the rest of material, our aim is to work under the guarantee provided by a certification like Oeko-Tex or GOTS. In other cases like trimmings’ we always look for superior quality and nickel or the absence of other unsafe metals. We also care about other materials like wood or paper. All woods used by OA are certified according to the Forest Stewardship Council standards. Forest exploitation and wood processing are ecologic and socially responsible. For instance, our paper and cardboard are also certified and 90% recycled.
